Nishit Dey, the Sitar Tutor

With Nishit Dey’s birth the Dey dynasty of  Mymensingh began its 4th generation relay in music. Although his initiation to music occurred with his hands on tabla, he was drawn to vocal by his uncle Asit Dey. Eventually, he took to sitar and was fortunate to have taalim from his first guru Sheikh Sattar Mohammad till the latter’s demise in 2009. Since then he has been under the tutelage of Ashim Chowdhury, an exponent of the great Imdadkhani gharana.
